Oysters with Tabasco Sauce: A Simple, Spicy Seafood Appetizer Recipe

Elevate fresh oysters with the bold, fiery kick of Tabasco® pepper sauce. Just a few drops deliver intense flavor and spice to this classic starter.

Ingredients for 12 oysters
– 12 fresh oysters in the shell
– Crushed ice cubes
– Red TABASCO® sauce
– Lemon wedges

Preparation
Rinse the oysters under cold running water to remove any dirt or sand. Chill them on ice for about an hour before shucking to ensure they're ice-cold and easy to handle.

Protect your hand with a thick oven mitt or folded tea towel. Hold the oyster with the hinge facing you, then insert an oyster knife into the hinge. Gently twist and pry with short circular motions until the blade pops in. Rotate the knife to sever the top muscle, opening the shell cleanly.

Before serving
Carefully loosen the oyster from the bottom shell with the knife, preserving its natural juices. Discard the top shell and nestle the oyster on a bed of crushed ice. Drizzle each with a few drops of TABASCO® sauce and accompany with fresh lemon wedges.

Tabasco red 57ml (suggested retail price €2.59) is widely available at supermarkets.
