Vegan Black Bean Balls with Vegetable Tzatziki: Easy BBQ Recipe

Struggling to grill vegetables? No problem—supermarket shelves offer plenty of ready-made sausages, burgers, and balls. But as any home cook knows, homemade always tastes better.

Our black bean balls with creamy vegetable tzatziki are a game-changer. Thread them on skewers for the perfect plant-based barbecue.

Ingredients for the Black Bean Balls

  • 400 grams black beans
  • 200 grams oat flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 handful fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • salt and pepper

Ingredients for the Vegetable Tzatziki

  • 1/2 cucumber, grated
  • 250 ml plant-based yogurt (e.g., soy)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 garlic clove
  • salt and pepper

Preparation Method

1. Combine all black bean ball ingredients in a food processor and blend until mostly smooth, leaving some texture for bite. It should hold together—if too dry, add olive oil; if too wet, add oat flour.
2. Roll into balls.
3. Pan-fry in olive oil for 1-2 minutes per side. Refrigerate until barbecue time.
4. Skewer the balls and grill 2 minutes per side.
5. Mix tzatziki ingredients. Serve alongside the warm black bean balls.
