Craving a simple, affordable dessert that's soft, moist, and kid-approved? Our banana cake delivers just that, with a clever twist: baked in jars for grab-and-go convenience.
These individual portions are perfect for gifting to friends or colleagues, picnics, or quick snacks. As a home baker with years of perfecting easy recipes, I love how this method seals in freshness while making sharing effortless. Here's the straightforward recipe:

Prep time: 10 mins
Cook time: 45 mins

1. Preheat oven to 160°C.
2. Butter the insides of the jars. Remove wire ties if present.
3. In a large bowl, use an electric whisk to beat melted butter and sugar until smooth.
4. Add eggs, mashed bananas, and water. Whisk until light and fluffy.
5. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and cloves.
6. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture in batches, stirring well each time.
7. Fold in the crushed walnuts.
8. Fill jars halfway with batter using a spoon or piping bag (fill a plastic bag and snip a corner).
9. Wipe any batter spills with a damp cloth. Do not add lids yet.
10. Place jars on baking paper in the oven for 40-45 minutes. Sterilize lids in boiling water meanwhile.
11. Remove jars, add lids immediately—the heat will seal them. Cool completely. Store in fridge up to 1 week.
12. For a traditional cake, use 2 (23 x 13 cm) molds; bake 55-60 mins.
13. Test doneness with a toothpick in the center—it should come out clean. Enjoy your homemade banana cake!

Two key benefits from my baking experience:
1. Ideal for gifting
Batch-prep multiple jars for thoughtful presents—neighbors, colleagues, parties, or holidays.
2. Freezer-friendly storage
Sealed jars freeze for months, ready for last-minute desserts when time is short.
