Sunny days are here, reigniting my love for ice-cold lemonade—my ultimate refreshment as temperatures climb.
With over a decade of home cooking experience, including family traditions like this, my son and I recently crafted our own natural version using this straightforward recipe.
The only challenge was finding a stoneware pot; my mom lent us one, but you can find one here.
Our result? An exceptional, easy-to-make lemonade that's worlds better than store-bought.

1. Pour the 4 liters of water into the stoneware pot.
2. Add the sugar.
3. Wash the lemons.
4. Slice them into rings.
5. Add them to the pot.
6. Add the rice.
7. For extra flavor, include a piece of peeled ginger, a handful of elderberries, or 1 tablespoon of raspberry liqueur.
8. Cover the pot.
9. Let it macerate for 3 days—longer maceration yields more fizz.
10. Stir daily with a spoon.
11. Strain the mixture.
12. Bottle it.
13. Seal the bottles.
14. Refrigerate.
15. Wait 3-4 days before enjoying!
You've just made homemade lemonade! Simple, right? And so delicious, you'll never go back to commercial versions.
For a bolder lemon flavor, use two lemons; one is plenty for a milder taste.
We love it plain, but customize during maceration with fruits, liqueurs, or ginger.
Longer maceration means more natural sparkle.
The rice ferments in the stoneware pot, creating that delightful fizz.
