Ingredients

For the shortbread (serves 4):

  • 100g soft butter
  • 50g sugar
  • 150g flour
  • 1 sachet vanilla sugar
  • 1 pinch of salt

For the caramel:

  • 1 can (400g) sweetened condensed milk
  • 50g sugar
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 50g butter

For the chocolate topping:

  • 180g dark or milk chocolate (your choice)

How to Make

Shortbread base:

  1. Mix the soft butter with the sugar and vanilla sugar until creamy.
  2. Add the salt and flour gradually, stirring to form a dough.
  3. Spread the dough evenly on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  4. Bake at 150°C (300°F) for about 30 minutes. It should remain pale.

Caramel layer:

  1. In a saucepan over low heat, combine the butter and sweetened condensed milk.
  2. Add the sugar and honey, stirring continuously.
  3. Cook on low heat, stirring often, until it turns a thick, elastic caramel color.
  4. Spread the hot caramel over the cooled shortbread and let it set.

Chocolate topping:

  1. Melt the chocolate in a saucepan over low heat, stirring until smooth.
  2. Let it cool for 5 minutes.
  3. Pour over the caramel layer.
  4. Once fully set and chilled, cut into bars of your desired size.
