Herengracht Restaurant Review: Food is the New Diet in Amsterdam

Healthy eating doesn't require strict calorie counting. Herengracht Restaurant & Bar in Amsterdam proves it with a six-week series of weekly three-course menus crafted by top nutritionists.

In short, food is the new diet. We sampled the first one, curated by nutritionist Jobien Groen, author of Lekker Lokaal. Her recipes got a refined touch from the Herengracht chef.

Appetizer
Tarte tatin of leek and skeapsrond.

Main course
Fried haddock, Jerusalem artichoke gnocchi with mint & walnut, and Jerusalem artichoke foam.

Dessert
Apple clafoutis with rosemary and thyme ice cream.

A true delight
The menu got us excited, but the beautifully plated starter—complete with an informative rundown—sealed the deal. Each course smelled divine and tasted even better. We were won over bite by bite.
