For many food enthusiasts, snapping a photo before digging in is routine. But does seeing those tempting images influence your hunger? A recent study provides intriguing answers.
60 Photos
Researchers tested 232 participants. Half viewed 60 images of sweet treats like cake, chocolate truffles, and pie. The others saw salty snacks such as chips and fries. Each group rated their appetite afterward.
Appetite Impact
Participants then tasted peanuts and rated their appeal. Those exposed to salty food photos reported less enjoyment and lower appetite compared to the sweets group.
Calorie-Saving Potential?
Could gazing at treat photos curb cravings and help cut calories? Conversely, healthy options like yogurt with goji berries and flaxseeds might spike hunger—though untested.
Limited Real-World Effect
The catch: Effects only emerged after viewing many images—60 daily isn't practical. For most, food photos likely have negligible impact on appetite.
