Classic Moules Marinières Recipe: Authentic Mussels for Just €2.08 Per Person

As a home cook with years of experience preparing French classics, I've found moules marinières to be an effortless, budget-friendly dish that's perfect for light, flavorful meals. These mussels are simple to make and always a hit.

Ingredients for 4 People

  • 2 liters of mussels
  • 30 g of butter
  • 2 shallots
  • 1 large glass of dry white wine
  • 1/2 bunch of flat-leaf parsley
  • Pepper

In the Kitchen

Preparation: 20 min - Cooking: 20 min

  1. I wash and scrape the mussels with a knife under running cold water.
  2. I peel and chop the shallots and chop the parsley.
  3. In a large casserole, I melt the butter over high heat and add the shallots, parsley, and white wine.
  4. I add the mussels to the casserole and cook, covered, for 6-7 minutes on high heat. Stir 2-3 times during cooking to ensure all mussels open.
  5. Once the mussels have opened widely, remove the casserole from the heat. Arrange the mussels in soup plates and pour over the cooking juices.

Serve with traditional French fries for the perfect pairing!

Bonus Tip

For extra richness, stir in 2 tablespoons of fresh cream to the cooking juices before serving. Consume mussels on the day of purchase, or store for up to 2 days in the fridge's vegetable drawer, covered with a damp cloth.

A Modest Cost

  • 2 liters of mussels (about 2 kg): €3.50 per kilo or €7
