- 8 slices sandwich bread (about 360g at €1.46/kg = €0.53)
- 1 can natural tuna (250g at €9.68/kg = €2.42)
- 4 tomatoes (about 480g at €2.50/kg = €1.20)
- 1 oak leaf lettuce (€0.99, using 4 leaves only)
- 1 onion (about 100g at €1.85/kg = €0.19)
- Olive oil, salt & pepper
Total: €1.33 per croque or €5.33 for 4 people.
Prep Time: 10 min - Cook Time: 3 min
- Wash the lettuce leaves in cold water, wring dry, and pat with paper towels.
- Rinse and slice tomatoes thinly.
- Peel and slice onion into thin rings.
- In a bowl, combine tomatoes, drained tuna, and onions. Drizzle with 1 tbsp olive oil, season with salt and pepper, and mix well.
- Toast the bread slices in a toaster or oven for 3 minutes.
- Place lettuce leaves on 4 toasted slices (trim to fit if needed).
- Spoon the tuna-tomato-onion mixture over the lettuce.
- Top with remaining toasted slices.
