How to Make Apple Pie in a Slow Cooker
I set out to bake a cake in my slow cooker one day, but with only self-raising flour and apples on hand, I improvised this apple pie instead. The result? A family favorite that's now a staple in my dessert rotation.
Ingredients for Slow Cooker Apple Pie
300 grams self-raising flour
200 grams unsalted butter (room temperature)
160 grams white caster sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
About 6 apples (Elstar variety works great)
1 egg (room temperature)
50 grams regular sugar
A pinch of salt
Tip: Soak and add raisins for extra chewiness and flavor—delicious, though my kids prefer it without.

Preparing the Dough
Cut the butter into pieces and place in a large bowl.
Add self-raising flour, 160 grams white caster sugar, salt, and 2/3 of the egg.
Knead with a mixer using dough hooks or by hand (my go-to method) until a smooth dough forms.
Rest the dough in the fridge for 10 minutes.
Preparing the Apple Filling
Peel, core, and slice the apples into small pieces.
Toss in a bowl with 50 grams regular sugar and cinnamon.
Assembling and Cooking in the Slow Cooker
Once the dough has chilled for 10 minutes, assemble your pie:
Line the bottom of your slow cooker with baking paper—folds are fine.
Press 3/4 of the dough onto the paper to form the base, raising the edges up the sides.
Fill with the apple mixture.
Roll the remaining 1/4 dough into strips, flatten slightly, and lay in a lattice over the top.
Brush the lattice with the remaining egg.
Tuck a tea towel around the lid to absorb moisture.
Cook on high for 4-6 hours. Test doneness by piercing the dough with a skewer, then slice and enjoy your perfect slow cooker apple pie!
