Bali's stunning landscapes and vibrant culture captivate visitors, but for me, the island's vegan pancakes steal the show. As a frequent traveler and avid vegan food enthusiast, I've tested countless stacks across the island to find the fluffiest, most flavorful options. Forget the myth that egg-free pancakes are dry—these spots prove otherwise.
At home in the Netherlands, I've experimented with top recipes, but nothing compares to Bali's creative 'pancake stacks.' From unicorn to matcha varieties, plus underrated waffles (why no emoji?), here's my expert guide to the best vegan pancakes and waffles, based on personal visits.
'Fitness food for all'
Nestled on Canggu's main street, Motion Café offers healthy eats with vegan choices in a cozy, always-busy space. Their waffles are exceptional—crispy, not dry, and perfectly balanced. Opt for the sweet potato waffle topped with banana and natural peanut butter (I counted two whole bananas!). Swap the protein base for plant-based upon request. Expect a 30-minute wait (they warn you upfront), but it's worth it for this protein-packed treat, ideal post-workout or anytime.

'Insanely tasty vegan breakfast'
Since late 2018, this 100% plant-based gem has wowed with its extensive menu. I always cave to the pancakes or waffles—upgrade to five layers with caramel sauce, vegan butter, and fresh fruit. Waffles arrive with strawberry, banana, kiwi, chocolate sauce, and papaya compote. They keep your water topped up (a rarity in Bali) and greet you with tastes of red velvet, chocolate, or lemon cake. Indulgent yet satisfying.

'Passion for Matcha'
After a meh matcha pancake elsewhere, a friend recommended this spot for authentic Japanese matcha. The light, fluffy vegan matcha pancakes with caramelized banana layers and sugar-free homemade Nutella were divine. Bonus: free matcha tea and cookie. Owner Matteo and the team's enthusiasm shines through—highly recommended from experience!

'Only local, organic food'
Featured in my Bali breakfast guide, Zest delivered on my birthday pancake craving amid friends' pizza orders. Three medium rounds with mango, coconut, caramelized banana, dragon fruit, and chocolate sauce hit the spot—light, flavorful, perfectly portioned. Add it to your Ubud itinerary.

'Vegan fast food for all'
My first Canggu breakfast: cute choc-chip pancakes like mini poffertjes, with strawberry, banana, maple syrup, and coconut whip—all for under €3.50. Available only till 11am; head upstairs for plant-filled vibes and wooden tables (no windows, but airy).

'Instaproof & GOOD food'
During a Seminyak stopover, Kynd satisfied my cravings. Beyond the Instagram fame, flavors deliver: waffles with coconut ice cream cubes (to prevent melting) and Oreo cookies vanished fast. Proof that pretty food can taste amazing too.

'#GARDENGANGSTAS'
Pricier with huge portions, but my matcha pancakes were disappointingly dry—needing water to finish. Staff confirmed it's typical. First time leaving half my plate. Try them and share your thoughts!
