Jam lovers, we know you crave that sweet spread—but traditional recipes pack in too much sugar, which isn't ideal for your health or waistline. No need to skip it entirely for a balanced diet.
Our tested homemade low-sugar jam recipe uses agar-agar to cut sugar while keeping the flavor and texture perfect. As experienced home cooks, we've perfected this lighter alternative that tastes just as delicious.

1. Use 300 to 500 g of sugar for 1 kg of fruit.
2. Cook on a low boil for 30 minutes.
3. Add 2 g of agar-agar, diluted in a little water, 3 minutes before the end of cooking.
4. Mix and cook for 3 minutes.
5. Pour into clean jars.
6. Turn jars upside down until cool.
That's it—your delicious low-sugar homemade jam is ready. It keeps in the fridge for several weeks. For longer storage up to a year, sterilize sealed jars in boiling water for 10 minutes.
Agar-agar, a natural vegetable gelling agent, replaces some sugar without masking flavors. If you don't have agar-agar, you can get some here.
