- 4 large slices slightly stale country bread
- 40g butter
- 4 apples (Queen or Boskoop)
- 60g powdered sugar
Difficulty: Easy
- Butter the slices of bread on one side.
- Arrange them flat in a generously buttered ovenproof dish, unbuttered side down.
- Peel the apples and slice thinly, as for an apple pie.
- Layer apple slices over each bread slice, dust with powdered sugar, and add a second layer.
- Top with remaining sugar and dot with butter pieces.
- Bake in a hot oven at thermostat 7-8 (250°C) until golden and lightly caramelized.
