Cyril Lignac's Ultra-Light Chocolate Cake: Guilt-Free Recipe with a Surprise Ingredient

Chocolate cake has a cherished spot in our hearts. Simple to make, affordable, and bursting with soft texture and rich cocoa flavor, it always brings joy. Yet traditional recipes are often calorie-dense and tough to digest. Renowned French chef Cyril Lignac shares his expert tips for a lighter version, revealed on RTL radio.

Cyril Lignac's Tips for a Light Chocolate Cake

Indulging in desserts doesn't have to mean heavy calories. Celebrity pastry chef Cyril Lignac's secret weapon is pumpkin, a fiber-packed vegetable from the Cucurbitaceae family. It delivers natural sweetness and moisture for a velvety texture—no butter, flour, or added sugar needed. Ideal for those watching their weight, or managing allergies, diabetes, and more.

Cyril Lignac's Light Chocolate Cake Recipe

Preparation time: 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Cooking time: 30 minutes.

Ingredients for the light chocolate cake:

  • 400g pumpkin
  • 40g honey
  • 20g cocoa powder
  • 30g cornstarch
  • 150g chocolate
  • 4 eggs

Step-by-step preparation:

  1. Peel the pumpkin and roast it in the oven at 180° for 1 hour.
  2. Once cooked and cooled, scoop out the flesh onto a plate and mash with a fork.
  3. Separate the egg whites from the yolks. In a bowl, whisk the four yolks, then add honey, cocoa, and half the pumpkin mash.
  4. Mix well and stir in the cornstarch.
  5. Add melted chocolate and remaining pumpkin mash; blend until smooth.
  6. In another bowl, whisk the egg whites to stiff peaks, then gently fold into the batter without deflating them.
  7. Pour into a mold and bake at 180° for 30 minutes.

Chef's tip: For extra indulgence, top with chocolate icing—your choice!
