Cyril Lignac's Crispy Skillet Croque-Monsieur: Gourmet Recipe Ready in Minutes

As a go-to comfort food expert, I know that on busy days with an empty fridge, nothing beats a classic croque-monsieur. This beloved hot sandwich, credited to Michel Lunarca of a Parisian bistro, assembles in minutes using simple staples: fresh bread, ham, béchamel, and grated cheese. It's a crispy, savory treat that charms everyone from kids to adults.

Renowned French chef Cyril Lignac—known for his innovative twists on TV's 'Tous en Cuisine'—shared his crispy pan-fried croque-monsieur recipe in April. It's a quick, flavorful upgrade that's just as indulgent.

Cyril Lignac's Skillet Croque-Monsieur Recipe

Ingredients for 8 croque-monsieur:

  • 16 slices of white bread
  • 200 g grated Emmental, Parmesan or Gruyère according to your taste
  • 100 g fresh cream
  • 1 egg
  • Nutmeg or cumin powder
  • 100g butter
  • 100g sliced white ham or turkey
  • A bunch of chives
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper

Preparation steps:

  1. In a blender or food processor, combine the crème fraîche, grated cheese, egg and nutmeg.
  2. Melt the butter in the microwave for a few minutes. Set aside.
  3. Brush one side of each bread slice with the creamy preparation.
  4. On one slice, place a slice of ham and close the croque-monsieur.
  5. Use a brush to butter both sides of the croque-monsieur.
  6. In a frying pan, pour a drizzle of olive oil and place the croque-monsieur. Heat everything over low heat for a few minutes. Turn halfway through cooking so the cheese can melt.
  7. Serve, add chopped chives on top and enjoy!
