The Grandmas Project, guided by the slogan "Sharing the world's most delicious heritage," unites grandmothers' cherished recipes from around the globe on a single interactive platform.
This initiative was created by Jonas Parienté, a talented French director and digital strategist. The concept emerged a decade ago while filming a documentary about his two grandmothers—one Polish, the other Egyptian. In an interview with the Huffington Post, Jonas shared: "I realized what mattered most was passing on their memories, culture, and stories to others, and potentially to future generations."
Leveraging new technologies and social media, Jonas aims to inspire people to share authentic life stories. He envisions a website as a living archive of recipes, where each one opens a window into broader histories and cultures—far beyond mere cooking instructions.
The plan involves filming grandmothers preparing dishes and sharing them online. Users can explore personal narratives or savor recipes from Italian, Indian, or Japanese grandmas, forging connections without ever meeting.
Jonas Parienté is launching the first season of the Grandmas Project with 30 recipes, each in an 8-minute video format. Participation is open to experienced directors and film students in this collaborative effort.
The project is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, the crowdfunding platform newly launched in France.
