watch; the perfect knife sharpener for all cooking enthusiasts

I'm in love! Not only on the design of this knife sharpener, but also on the way the Horl does its job. What a wonderful product this is. Frank "ran" into it by accident through a Facebook post, I believe. As a true gadget lover, he had to inform me about this of course. He always does when he's seen something beautiful that he wants, and especially when he thinks I'm susceptible to it myself. And yes… with my food processor fetish I can of course tell you that I was immediately impressed by the Horl. So… let's get started with testing this Horl knife sharpener and tell you what we think, that was the idea.

The Horl knife-sharpener; a must-have for the home cook

I say very loudly that the Horl is a must-have for the home cook, but in fact it is not only intended for the ordinary home, garden and kitchen chef, but also for professionals. The Horl is widely praised as a knife sharpener by lovers of cooking. This knife sharpener is made in Germany. And I used to learn from my father that products from Germany are of excellent quality. Horl has proven the latter once again.

Why this knife-sharpener and not the other two we have lying around?

I already mentioned it above, my hubby is a gadget lover. Yet that was not the only reason to try the Horl. The knife sharpeners that we currently have in stock simply do not quite meet expectations. In addition, they also sharpen really differently than the Horl. And actually the standard knife sharpeners are not useful for beginners and the roller sharpener from Horl is. You can't sharpen your knife wrong with this. And I can do the latter with our standard knife sharpener where you put your knife in and lift it up and down. Or with the sharpening steel, I can't handle that at all.

Sharpening with the Horl is a breeze. You put your knife against the rectangular part of the knife sharpener, which has a large magnet. Your blade is so well secured, at the perfect angle. Then you roll along the knife with the roller sharpener and you automatically sharpen your knife in the right way. At the right angle. Easy peasy lemon squeezy! Check out the video below:

How about you? Who sharpens the knives in your house and are they sharpened at all? As I said, I'm not such a star with our other knife sharpeners, but the Horl does work. Quite simply put, you can't really go wrong with this beautiful knife sharpener. And besides, it still looks nice on the shelf 😉 . In the past I always called Frank when a knife had to be sharpened. And in the even more distant past I was not even aware that knives might have to be sharpened before you can cut well with them.

How do you know your knife is sharp-cut?

But what a difference dude! With a sharpened knife you can cut through a tomato without any problems. And now I hear you think, a tomato? But therein lies the recognizable moment for me. Look, you can also cut a carrot with a somewhat duller knife. And a cucumber altogether. Just push a little harder. But not a tomato. Because then you actually push the skin of the tomato down instead of cutting through it. You've probably noticed. Once your knife is well sharpened, however, you have ideal tools in your hands to cut a tomato. Then you can go right through it without any difficulty. And then you know that your knife is well sharpened when it glides smoothly through a tomato. And with the Horl knife sharpener, that's a breeze.

You also notice it very clearly if you want to make hash and cut ribs, for example. That is simply impossible with a duller knife!

There's nothing more annoying than sharpening your knife when you're cooking

I used to find this very irritating. Because if I notice while cooking and cutting my vegetables that the knife is not sharp enough, Frank is of course not at home. And then I was fiddling with a knife sharpener (not from Horl). But now it is no longer a problem. I put my knife against the Horl and roll the grinding wheel along it a few times. Can't miss. I always have the right angle due to the position of the Horl knife sharpener and I can finish sharpening in half a minute. Just wipe my knife on the piece of leather that we have with it and then I can continue cutting my vegetables.

Different variants-of-the-horl-knife-sharpener

The Horl is available in different variants and colors, whereby the knife sharpener is in all cases made of solid wood. We have chosen the color 'oak' so that the knife sharpener fits well with the rest of our interior. Because let's face it, such a cool gadget should be seen. I don't want to hide it in a cupboard, but it will look nice on a shelf in the kitchen!

Admittedly, the Horl is not really cheap, but for a lifetime of sharpening knives it is actually not that bad. You can find it here for the price of 139.00 euros
