For years, cooking shows have dominated TV schedules worldwide, captivating audiences with entertainment, mouthwatering visuals, and endless inspiration. Yet, a recent UK study suggests they aren't translating into more home cooking.
The UK boasts iconic programs like The Great British Bake Off, MasterChef, and Come Dine With Me, turning viewers into devoted fans. Brits also dive into food blogs and social media. However, their habits tell a different story: they spend an average of 5 hours a week consuming food media but only 4 hours actually cooking.
This insight comes from a survey of 2,000 people commissioned by Lirpak butter. Over half prefer watching dishes prepared on TV or scrolling through stunning online meal photos rather than cooking themselves, citing lack of time and overly complex recipes as top barriers.
That said, change may be on the horizon—56% of respondents expressed a desire to try more recipes they discover online.
