Dutch Adults Cook Frequently at Home, But Prefer to Skip Partner Kitchen Duties: HelloFresh Survey

Eight out of ten Dutch adults serve a fresh, homemade meal at least twice a week. They enjoy cooking with friends, family, or in clubs, but most steer clear of the kitchen with their partner, according to a HelloFresh survey of over 1,000 respondents. Key reasons? 28% of men and 51% of women rate their own cooking skills higher than their partner's. A quarter say their partner lacks culinary surprises, while a third of women are frustrated by the mess left behind. Notably, men (47%) find joint cooking less worrisome than women (57%), so women prepare daily meals alone twice as often.

More than six in ten love cooking for others, yet a quarter dread home dinners. The biggest challenge? Estimating ingredient quantities. Most rely on recipes. A flop can ruin the evening for one in ten. Still, Dutch cooks embrace variety: half are open to new flavors, and 53% prioritize seasonal ingredients. In summer, purslane, bok choy, and broccoli feature more often.
