As a busy mom committed to a sugar-conscious lifestyle, baking healthy cakes was initially a challenge. But after rewarding my teenage son's high school grades (9 or above) with homemade treats, I dove into creating guilt-free alternatives to supermarket cakes. Drawing from my real-world experience and collaboration with Céréal, I've developed these tasty recipes using low-sugar ingredients that don't compromise on flavor.
These aren't just any sugar-free muffins—they're indulgent cheesecakes and pies made with clever substitutes like Céréal's reduced-sugar cookies. Perfect for birthdays or everyday snacking.
I kicked off with a cake using Céréal's low-sugar Double Delight cookies for my son Luc's impressive 9.3 grade. Here's my tested lineup:
This strawberry cheesecake is a family favorite, blending fresh berries and cream cheese with a lighter touch. The low-sugar biscuit base keeps it calorie-friendly without sacrificing taste.
A refreshing no-bake option with a cottage cheese filling and berry topping on a coconut cookie base.
Base:
Melt butter, crush cookies, mix, and press into lined cake tin. Chill 1 hour.
Filling:
Soak gelatin, dissolve in warm water. Mix with cottage cheese and vanilla. Warm and blend thawed berries, combine. Spread jam on base, add filling. Chill 3 hours. Garnish with fresh berries.
Kids-approved (mostly!), this fruity pie from Eatclean.nl uses natural fruit sugars. Note: Higher in natural sugars from dates and mango.
Not yet tested but on my must-try list—oat-packed and wholesome. Full recipe at Mindyourfeed. Ideal since we love oats for breakfast.
These recipes stem from my Céréal challenge to cut sugar using smart swaps like their cookies. Weeks in, I feel fitter and more energetic. Check Céréal's recipe page for more, like apricot cake or apple-almond cake.
