A good addition to your own vegetable and herb garden:spring onions. It's cheap and they don't need much care.
This is how you do it
Put the end of one or more spring onions in a pot of water in the sun. Within a few days a new onion will start to grow. Change the water once a week and you will always have your own spring onions ready.
