Why Fatty Foods Trigger Daytime Sleepiness: Key Findings from Penn State Research

To stay sharp and alert throughout the day, prioritize carbohydrate-rich meals over fatty ones. According to experts at Penn State College of Medicine, high-fat foods promote sleepiness, while carbs enhance wakefulness.

In a controlled study, researchers monitored 31 healthy volunteers in a laboratory setting, providing them with standardized meals. The results were clear: high-fat consumption led to greater daytime drowsiness. Carbohydrates, on the other hand, boosted alertness. No link was found between protein intake and fatigue.
