Reasons to take a cooking class

Have you always wanted to try a cooking class, but not sure if it's for you? Cooking classes are for everyone, whether the only meal you can make is a fried egg or you're a more experienced hobby chef. Classes are an ideal way to get out of your comfort zone, learn new skills, meet new people and liven up date nights. Here are the reasons to take a cooking class.

1. You learn new recipes Whether you're cooking for one, two, or the whole family, sometimes you can get stuck in a recipe rut, making the same meals over and over because they're easy or quick. Going to a cooking class can inspire you to try new meals and add some variety to your weekly schedule.

2. You meet new people Alone or as a couple, the usual cooking class setup crams a lot of students into a confined space. That's perfect for making new friends, starting conversations, and getting help if you're having trouble with the recipe. Even if you are cooking, there is always time to chat. Be careful not to burn your own dish if you get caught up in a conversation!

3. You try new foods
As with tried and true recipes, it's easy to get into the habit of using the same meats, vegetables and spices over and over in cooking. Perhaps you have no idea how to prepare a pumpkin, or cooking anything other than chicken seems like a dangerous proposition. A cooking class is the perfect space to try new things because the instructions (and instructor) are there and walk you through the process. And you can learn to love some new foods that you can prepare at home too

4. A nice idea for a date
If your date nights have dwindled or are starting to get old (there are only so many new movies every week), a cooking class is a great way to spice up your one-on-one time. You work together to create a dish, try new things and learn new skills, and the result is something you can both enjoy and share. Maybe only one of you rules the kitchen at home, but in a cooking class you are a team, which is a great dynamic for any relationship.

5. You learn about seasonal dishes
This may not apply to all cooking classes, but most of the time you will use seasonal fruits and vegetables to create your dishes. By becoming more familiar with what is available locally and in season, you will also be using the freshest ingredients in your own kitchen at home.

6. It gives you healthier options
Again, not every class lets you cook healthy meals, which is okay, because sometimes we want to enjoy ourselves. But learning how to make healthy snacks, low-calorie meals, or meals packed with good ingredients means that on days when you're tired or ate too much junk during the day, you've got a recipe in store that will make you feel good and guilt-free to eat.

7. You learn new skills in the kitchen
There are many recipes that ask you to stuff, peel, chop, grate, julienne, purée, etc. things, and you can only Google or YouTube these things so many times before you get discouraged. That's why cooking classes are so invaluable, because you learn how to use different utensils and prepare your food in different ways, so when you go back to your own kitchen, you feel like a pro and can do more than you could before. .
