Why Pizza for Breakfast Might Beat Cereal: Insights from a Registered Dietitian

Breakfast fuels your day after an overnight fast, helping recharge your energy. Skipping it may raise heart disease risk, per a recent American study. Yet many reach for sugary cereals, often seen as healthy. British registered dietitian Chelsey Amer cautions otherwise. Speaking to The Evening Standard, she reveals: “It will surprise you but a medium slice of pizza and a bowl of cereal with whole milk contain the same number of calories.”

Vegetable Pizza: A Surprising Better Choice

Pizza edges out cereal here too. “However, pizza has a higher protein intake which keeps you full until lunchtime,” Amer explains. Cereal fans, opt for whole-grain, high-fiber varieties topped with fresh fruit—far healthier than sugar bombs. This isn't a call to swap every breakfast for pizza at 7:30 a.m. But a veggie-loaded slice (skip the four-cheese or burger versions) offers an occasional treat. Chocapic or vegetarian pizza? Choose wisely.
