France is celebrated for its culinary mastery, where restaurant dishes demand perfection—impeccable flavors, precise temperatures, and elegant presentation. Yet, French eating habits are evolving. Data from Kantar Worldpanel shows a decline since 2014: 10.2 million fewer entrées and 8.4 million fewer desserts consumed. In contrast, aperitifs have surged by a million instances weekly. Who could resist a glass of wine paired with tapas?
Kantar's research draws from 530 consumers surveyed weekly. It also highlights a growing preference for terrace dining, with breakfasts up 10.2% and dinners rising 4.9%. Marie-Aude Lerin Joarlertte, who leads the study, notes that the French increasingly seek convivial, relaxed moments over drinks to unwind.
