McDonald's Launches Vegan Veggie McSpice Burger in Norway

The demand for vegetarian and vegan foods is surging, driven in part by recent slaughterhouse scandals. Fast-food leaders like McDonald's are adapting. After introducing vegetarian burgers in select markets, McDonald's Norway has debuted the 100% vegan Veggie McSpice. This burger swaps meat for a flavorful patty of red beans, carrots, green peppers, and onions. The standard version is vegetarian with cheese, but request it without for a fully vegan meal. It's prepared separately from meat or fish items and launched on April 26, 2017.

Vegetarian Options Gain Ground Worldwide

India, where 40% of the population is vegetarian, leads with McDonald's offerings like Mc Veggie, Veg Maharaja Mac, Veg Supreme McMuffin, and Veg McMuffin—all vegan sans cheese. Countries including Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, and Finland feature veggie patties blending peas, green beans, and carrots. In France, a limited-edition cheese-free burger was available but has since ended.

With global momentum building, France could soon see its own vegetarian or vegan McDonald's burger. The Veggie McSpice is one to watch.
