This is how you grow bean sprouts

Growing bean sprouts is not very difficult. What you need is a week of patience and an occasional water change.

Supplies

  • Mung beans, unsplit
  • Basket or pot with lid with holes
  • Water

If you don't have a lid with holes, you can cover the opening of the jar with a piece of cloth. Secure it with an elastic.

This is how you grow bean sprouts

  1. Put a layer of mung beans in the container and fill it with water. The beans do not have to be on top of each other. When they germinate, the entire container will be full of bean sprouts.
  2. Soak the beans in a dark place for 12 hours.
  3. Pour off the water and let the beans drain.
  4. Rinse the beans two to three times a day with clean water. Then turn the container upside down so that the beans can drain.

By always rinsing with clean water you prevent bacterial growth. Rinsing keeps the beans moist enough to germinate. Do not put the container in the refrigerator. Within a week you will have a bowl full of fresh bean sprouts.
