How to Grow Fresh Bean Sprouts at Home: Simple 7-Day Guide

Growing bean sprouts at home is straightforward and rewarding. With a week's patience and daily rinses, you'll harvest fresh, crunchy sprouts perfect for salads and stir-fries.

Supplies Needed

  • Mung beans, unsplit
  • Basket or pot with a perforated lid
  • Water

If you don't have a lid with holes, cover the container opening with cloth and secure it with an elastic band.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Add a single layer of mung beans to the container and fill with water. They don't need to overlap—sprouts will fill it as they grow.
  2. Soak in a dark place for 12 hours.
  3. Drain off the water and let the beans dry.
  4. Rinse with clean water 2-3 times a day, then invert the container to drain well.

Regular rinsing with fresh water prevents bacterial growth while keeping beans moist for germination. Skip the fridge—your bowl will be full of fresh sprouts in a week.
