Additional advice

- Take out the butter in advance to make it easier to spread.

- To turn the croque-monsieur in the pan, use a spatula to avoid burning yourself.

- You can also grill your croque-monsieur in the oven, turning them over halfway through cooking. Find out how here.

- Some gourmands like to add a layer of béchamel cheese sauce on one of the slices of bread. Discover the bechamel recipe here.

- Now, there are many variations around the classic croque-monsieur. You can add a fried egg to the croque-monsieur to make a croque à cheval. In the Hawaiian croque, we add a slice of pineapple on the ham and cheese.

- You can also replace the Gruyère with a tasty Auvergne blue cheese and you get a succulent Auvergne croque.

- Finally, with one or two slices of tomato to complete the ham and cheese filling, we have a croque-madame!

- You can also prepare your croque-monsieur in a croque-monsieur device. And to clean it easily, follow this trick.
