The glownut, the phosphorescent donut served in a Sydney pastry shop

In terms of pastry, techniques are constantly evolving and give ever more surprising results. Whether it's the mirror cakes that fascinated Instagram users in 2016 or more recently the Mermaid Cake, this colorful dessert inspired by the mermaid and more broadly by the underwater world, the creations are eye-popping and bear witness to an ever-increasing mastery. The latest novelty – and you had to think about it! – is none other than the glownut, a traditional donut that glows in the dark! Created by the Black Star Pastry establishment located in Sydney, the phosphorescent pastry consists of a yuzu glaze, a Japanese citrus fruit whose taste is between that of lemon, grapefruit and tangerine, in which is integrated vitamin B, responsible for its glow. It was unveiled on the occasion of Vivid Sydney, a festival of lights and music that takes place from May 26 to June 17.

No artificial ingredients

The neon yellow color can be a little reassuring, but the creator of the pastry, Christopher Té insists on the fact that it is natural:no additives or artificial coloring have been added, the phosphorescent aspect is exclusively due to vitamin B “We would never have created something artificial, even if it was the idea of the century “, he explains to Daily Mail Australia . And to add:“We thought it was fun to see customers with phosphorescent icing all over their hands and faces, and we concluded that the donut was the most interesting ". Black Star Pastry has other glow-in-the-dark pastries, including a cake, mini donuts, and even white chocolate and honey drinks. Interesting… We are frankly tempted by this unique tasting!
