Give in to the Porn Star Martini, the must-try cocktail this summer!

Specialists will say that it is a classic of mixology, but at Biba we are not experts in the field, just simple amateurs who from time to time succumb to the pleasure of toasting with something other than a glass of white wine. This is how recently, under the impetus of a colleague who is always quick to change her habits at aperitif time, we discovered the Porn Star Martini, and this, several years behind our British friends in particular; which indeed voted it best cocktail of the year…in 2018.

A unique blend of flavors

But let's get to the heart of the matter:what is this cocktail made with, to say the least, evocative names! And of course vanilla vodka and passion fruit liqueur, all accompanied by a shot of champagne. A marriage of flavors that we owe to Douglas Ankrah, mixologist and consultant who had the idea to create this cocktail in 1999 after returning from a trip to South Africa.

The summer that sparkles in your mouth

"I wanted to create a drink that was bold, sexy and playful" , he revealed to the British site the-buyer.net . But by the way, why such a name? "I called it 'pornstar' because I thought it was something a pornstar could drink, there was nothing sexual in it .

As such, be aware that in 2019, the retailer Marks &Spencer was forced to rename the cocktail to Passion Star Martini following complaints that the name normalized pornography, we will naturally be less prudish than the Queen's subjects.

For two glasses

Ingredients:

  • 8 cl vodka
  • 1 vanilla pod
  • 4 passion fruits
  • 3 cl passoa passion fruit liqueur
  • 3 cl freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 3 cl vanilla syrup
  • 16 cl brut champagne
  • Vanilla sugar

Preparation:

-Place the vodka, passion fruit liqueur, lime juice and vanilla syrup in a cocktail shaker half filled with ice cubes. Cut the vanilla pod in 2 lengthwise, collect the seeds from the flat of the knife and add to the contents of the shaker. Cut 3 passion fruits in half and add the flesh to the shaker.

– Shake vigorously until you feel the shaker very cold. Strain into two martini glasses and drop half a remaining passion fruit, sprinkled with vanilla sugar, into the glass. Serve with a teaspoon and champagne in a shooter.

Notes

The champagne shooter is of course optional but has its little effect and the sparkling and fresh side of the champagne goes perfectly with the acidity of the cocktail!
