Roses, the queen of flowers, offer remarkable benefits for skin care, stress relief, and even culinary uses. As someone who's long cherished their sweet fragrance in my beauty routine and homemade oils, I especially love rose water for facial care.
This versatile DIY rose water boasts multiple benefits in cosmetics and cooking. It's simple, cost-free to make at home, and requires just three steps with minimal ingredients. Here's how:
Contents - 1/2 liter of water
- 2 generous handfuls of fresh rose petals (or dried rosebuds)
1. Bring 1/2 liter of water to a boil.
2. Add 2 generous handfuls of rose petals—ideally foraged from your garden or a relative's to keep it free—and steep for 20 minutes in the boiled water.
3. Strain the infusion into a clean, recycled bottle.
Your homemade rose water is ready! It's straightforward, quick, and budget-friendly. Add a label to your bottle for clarity. Store it in the refrigerator for up to 6 months. Note: Rose water and rose hydrosol are the same natural product.
1. Skin Care
I've relied on rose water for years to nurture my skin. Soak a cotton pad and gently cleanse. For dry or sensitive skin, it softens, hydrates, refreshes, tones, and purifies. For oily skin, its astringent properties regulate sebum. Apply to pimples for faster healing, and use as an excellent anti-wrinkle treatment.
2. Internal and Bath Use
Drink it to soothe coughs or ease stress—it's incredibly effective. I also add it to bathwater for ultimate relaxation, enveloped in its enchanting scent.
3. In Cooking
This edible rose water elevates pastries, replacing artificial flavors. It shines in almond biscuits, sand roses, charlottes, homemade yogurts with almonds, salads, gazpachos, or mixed with honey. A true multitasker for cosmetics and cakes!
Organic rose water costs €6–€15 for 200 ml. By foraging petals seasonally, your 500 ml batch is free and effortless. You'll feel empowered caring for yourself with nature's best.
