Veganuary:1 in 3 Dutch people want to go vegan but have too many doubts

The interest of the Dutch for vegan meals continues to grow. Yet one in three gourmets doubts whether they are getting enough essential nutrients with plant-based meals. This is apparent from a recent study by Thuisbezorgd.nl.

The Veganuary movement, in which hundreds of thousands of people worldwide start the year with a vegan diet, has been around since 2014 and has grown in popularity in recent years. Thuisbezorgd.nl also sees that more and more people want to make the switch to vegan. About one in five Dutch people (21%) are considering ordering vegan more often than five years ago. This attitude is reflected in the largest food ordering site in the Netherlands. In 2020, Thuisbezorgd.nl saw the number of orders for vegan meals almost double. The number of vegan meals offered by restaurants has also increased by 40%.

Why eat vegan?
For most Dutch people, animal welfare (1 in 5) is the most important reason for eating vegan, followed by the climate and their health. Women (21%) indicate more often than men (11%) that they would eat vegan mainly because of animal welfare.

Make vegan food as easy and fun as possible
Thuisbezorgd.nl wants to inspire Dutch people to eat vegan in January. That can be for a full month or, for example, for one day a week. Anyway, Thuisbezorgd.nl helps everyone who participates in Veganuary with a number of initiatives. The company shares tips and advice throughout the month. In addition, tips for meals and restaurants are shared, but special discounts and collaborations with restaurants are also introduced to make the step to a vegan diet as easy as possible.
