At cruising altitude, our sense of taste diminishes by up to 30%. Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific tackled this challenge head-on by creating Betsy—a beer that actually tastes even better above 10,000 meters. Named after the airline's first aircraft, it was brewed in partnership with Hong Kong Beer Co. "We know flying alters taste perception. Airlines have refined meals for this, but beer at altitude? Untapped potential to delight our beer-loving passengers," explains Julian Lyden, Cathay Pacific's General Manager of Marketing.
To fully bloom in the thin air, this unique brew incorporates Fuggle hops, honey, and longan—a lychee-like fruit. Enjoy it in March and April 2017 on Cathay Pacific's first and business class flights from Hong Kong to Heathrow, Gatwick, and Manchester. Betsy will also appear in select Hong Kong restaurants and online during this period.
After moon-brewed beer, this sky-high innovation hints that beer's future truly soars beyond Earth!
