As experienced wine lovers know, this method has saved many gatherings. Here's how it works:

How to Open a Wine Bottle Without a Corkscrew: The Reliable Shoe Method

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Remove the foil collar from the bottle neck to allow the cork to emerge.

2. Place the bottle's base against the heel of a sturdy shoe, using the inside of the shoe for cushioning.

The shoe absorbs the impact, protecting the bottle from breaking.

3. Grip the bottle firmly at the base of the neck for safety and control.

4. Gently tap the shoe-clad bottle bottom against a solid wall. Let the heel cushion each tap.

5. After about 5 controlled taps, the cork will protrude enough to pull out by hand.

Tap lightly to avoid pushing the cork out too far, which could cause spilling.

The Result

Your bottle is now open—sip responsibly and savor the moment. :-)
