  • 1. Classic Deep-Fried Fries
  • 2. Paprika Oven-Baked Potato Wedges
  • 3. No-Fry Sweet Potato Fries
  • 4. Parmesan Matchstick Fries

1. Classic Deep-Fried Fries

Ingredients for 6 people

- 1 kg of Bintje potatoes (floury variety for extra crispiness and tenderness): €1.60 per kilo

- 1 liter of peanut oil: €2.30

- Salt

Preparation

1. Wash, peel, and cut the potatoes into even fries (thin or thick to your liking).

2. Rinse under cold running water to remove excess starch.

3. Pat dry with a tea towel, then fry at 150°C for 5-6 minutes.

4. Drain, then fry again at 180°C for 3 minutes.

5. Drain on absorbent paper, season with salt, and serve.

This double-fry method ensures golden, ultra-crispy fries. Use peanut oil and refresh it every 5-6 batches for best results.

Recipe cost: €1.60 for potatoes for 6 servings. Oil reusable 6 times, so €0.26 per person or €1.60 total. Compare to €2/kg for frozen fries – and mine taste far better!

2. Paprika Oven-Baked Potato Wedges

Ingredients for 6 people

- 1 kg of Bintje potatoes: €1.60 per kilo

- 2 teaspoons sweet paprika

- 3 tablespoons olive oil

- Salt

Preparation

1. Wash, peel, and cut potatoes into wedges. Rinse under cold water.

2. In a bowl, mix oil and paprika, add potatoes, and toss.

3. Marinate for 30 minutes.

4. Preheat oven to 210°C (th. 7), line tray with parchment.

5. Arrange wedges without overlapping; bake 30 minutes.

6. Salt to taste.

For heat, add extra paprika and garlic. Try Provençal herbs for variety!

Recipe cost: €0.47 paprika + €1.60 potatoes = €0.34 per person or €2.07 total. Beats €2.50/kg spicy frozen fries.

3. No-Fry Sweet Potato Fries

Ingredients for 6 people

- 1 kg sweet potatoes: €3.90 per kilo (vitamin A-rich, naturally sweet).

- 2 teaspoons fleur de sel

Preparation

1. Wash, peel, cut into fries, and rinse.

2. Preheat oven to 210°C.

3. Arrange on parchment-lined tray, no overlapping.

4. Sprinkle with salt; bake 25 minutes, checking often.

Enhance with cumin, curry, or paprika before baking.

Recipe cost: €3.90 total or €0.65 per person. Frozen versions rarely match this homemade freshness.

4. Parmesan Matchstick Fries

Ingredients for 6 people

- 1 kg Bintje potatoes: €1.60 per kilo

- 50 g Parmesan: €19.83 per kilo (€0.99)

- 3 tablespoons olive oil

- Salt and pepper

Preparation

1. Wash, peel, cut into thin matchsticks. Rinse and pat dry.

2. Preheat oven to 210°C; arrange on parchment-lined tray.

3. Drizzle with oil, sprinkle Parmesan.

4. Season with salt and pepper.

5. Bake 20 minutes, watching closely as they cook fast.

Recipe cost: €0.99 Parmesan + €1.60 potatoes = €0.43 per person or €2.58 total. Far superior to adding cheese to frozen fries (€2+).
