Today, Wednesday, October 25, Maastricht proudly launches the inaugural National Vlaai Day. This celebration pays tribute to the region's age-old delicacy, the vlaai—a traditional pie steeped in cultural heritage—and the vital role of time-honored recipes passed down through generations. Building on the success of the 'Maastricht Vlaai' introduced in early 2017, five renowned Maastricht bakers have collaborated to create a signature pie blending the favorite flavors of local icons: André Rieu, Tom Dumoulin, Fabrizio, Cécile Narinx, and Mayor Annemarie Penn-te Strake.
Visitors can join the Vlaai Route, winding through the city's top five bakeries. At each stop, pick up one-fifth of the pie to assemble your own authentic Maastricht vlaai.
