A Small Dream That Keeps Growing

Dreams often begin modestly – perhaps tinkering with music, writing, or baking in your spare time. As you share your creations, positive feedback sparks bigger aspirations: a major gig, a published book, or your own bakery. Stepping out of your private world invites scrutiny, but enthusiasm fuels momentum. Can you make it real? Absolutely. To inspire you, here's a real-life story – not about wine, but craft beer and a distinguished monkey: Deftige Aap.

Once Upon a Time: A Young Man and a Stately Monkey

Our story centers on a young man born in the late 20th century in a quaint wooden house in the woods near Gerwen village, affectionately known as "d'n Deftige Aap." His parents bought it from an eccentric organ grinder who traveled fairs with his barrel organ, donkey, and a loyal companion: a monkey in a chic suit and top hat. This colorful figure counted renowned artist Anton Pieck among his friends, who even sketched a stunning pen drawing of the man, organ, and monkey.

From Home Brewery to Deftige Aap

The young man grew up enjoying school, sports, and local life in Gerwen. He married a remarkable woman, held a stable job for years, and cherished hobbies and friendships. Then, he dreamed of brewing his own beer.

A new passion emerged: homebrewing on their apartment's ground floor, filled with aromas of hops, barley, and malt. Through trial, filtration, fermentation, and tasting, he perfected a delicious triple beer. Friends and family raved about it, validating his vision.

Old Name, New Dream

Needing a name, he drew from his roots – the family home and that elegant monkey illustration. "Deftige Aap" (The Decent Monkey) was revived. Bottles filled local cafes and off-licenses, success outgrowing his tiny setup. Demand surged, birthing a bolder dream.

Regional craft beers have boomed lately, and he spotted an opportunity: a brewery-cafe where visitors watch the process and sample fresh brews. Traditional, honest brewing – his next chapter.

With his cousin, he crafted detailed plans, conducted market research, and secured funding. Quitting his steady job was a bold leap, but essential for chasing dreams. Admirable commitment.

A Distinguished Concept

Months of collaboration with experts transformed the vision into reality. From scratch, Deftige Aap now thrives in central Helmond, near Gerwen – a full brewery with restaurant and shop stocking house-brewed beer and local specialties.

This entrepreneur nailed it. Dreams demand pursuit, heart, and grit – navigating banks and refining ideas. Supported by his wife, cousin (a culinary whiz), and stellar team, he's living the dream.
