A dream often starts small. You spend your free time, for example, making music, writing or baking cookies. It's going well and you're sharing your dream. More and more people are listening to your music, reading your lyrics or tasting your cookies. Secretly you dream of a big performance, your own book or your own cookie bakery. Very exciting. Because it was your dream or hobby, in your own little dream world. Now that you've shared it, there are different opinions. And that's scary. But when people react enthusiastically, the radars start spinning in your head. Can I make my dream come true? YES! WHICH CAN! To inspire you, I'm going to tell a story. This time it's not about wine. It's about beer! And about a monkey. A Decent Monkey.
Once upon a time there was a young man. Born in the last century in a small wooden house, located in the woods near the village of Gerwen. This house was popularly called "d'n Deftige Aap". The young man's parents had bought this wooden house from a special man. This special mantroke, together with barrel organ and donkey, passed fairgrounds and fairs. He also always took his faithful friend with him:a monkey dressed in a chic suit and top hat. In addition to his dignified monkey, this special man also had a good friend, Mr. Anton Pieck. The famous artist. He even made a beautiful pen drawing of his friend, organ and monkey!
The young man grows up. School, sports, going out, you know it. He remains faithful to the village of Gerwen and marries a very beautiful, strong woman. He also works for many years in permanent employment with the same employer. He has a nice life, that young man. He enjoys being with his wife, has a lot of friends and some nice hobbies. Until a few years ago he dreamed of owning his own beer!
So a new hobby was added, brewing beer. A very small brewery is slowly being formed on the ground floor of their apartment. The smell of hops, barley and malt meets you here. It is scraped, filtered, fermented and, of course, tasted. After many brews it's here! The beer! A triple. A tasty triple! His dream, to brew his own beer, is coming true. The young man not only likes the beer himself. The barley beer is also enthusiastically received by its environment.
The beer had to be given a name. The young man thought back to his roots. To his family and to his home. And suddenly he saw it before him. The pen drawing, with the elegant monkey. “The Decent Monkey” was reborn. More and more beer bottles were filled and the beer was put on the map at the local cafes. The beer also hit the shelves at the off-licences nearby. The young man bottled a lot. His beer was a success, his dream a reality. But due to this success, the smallest brewery in the country became too small, the demand too great. And so the young man had a new dream.
Special beers, especially regional beers, have gained a lot of popularity in recent years. A gap in the market, the young man also knows. Its own catering facility, where you can also brew. And where everyone can see how the beer is made. More importantly, where everyone can taste it too. That was his new dream. His own brewery, but slightly different. Traditional, honest and pure. Will this entrepreneurship remain a dream, or can his new, bigger dream become reality?
He then works out his dreams together with his cousin. His dreams become concrete plans. Ideas are put on paper, market research is done and discussions with financial institutions are made. The young man and his nephew have worked out a good idea that has inspired the right people. There will be money, a property and time. Because the young man quits his permanent job. After all, if you want to chase your dream, you have to dare to take risks. Quite a step but admirable, I think!
In recent months, we have worked hard together with various specialists on this distinguished concept, the Deftige Aap. Worked very hard. From nothing to something! Something very beautiful! Now there is a real brewery in the center of Helmond, near his birthplace Gerwen! With a restaurant and a shop where they sell traditionally brewed beer and other regional products.
The young man managed to do this very well. His own catering concept. So dreams are not always deception. But dreams don't come true on their own. The young man has chased his dreams. Followed his heart and persevered. Because banks do not immediately say yes and ideas do not come out of a top hat as concrete concepts. Fortunately, the young man continued to believe in his dream! He is supported in this by his wonderful wife and his wonderful cousin, a true kitchen prince. They gathered a very cool team around them with which they are going to pop! Together they are this dignified dream!!
The Decent Monkey is a fact. We have already reserved a table at this new hip hotspot in Helmond. Together with a few dear friends we go for a nice bite to eat while enjoying a decent beer. And discuss our own dreams. Because if we've learned anything from the young man, it's that dreams can really come true, if you just go for it!
