How Love, Breakups, and Parenthood Transform Your Eating Habits: HelloFresh Insights

Everyone aspires to eat healthier, but putting it into practice is often tougher than it seems. HelloFresh conducted research to uncover why, revealing that major life events—like falling in love or enduring heartbreak—play a pivotal role. Drawing from real respondent experiences, HelloFresh highlights these key moments and their impact on eating habits.

Cohabiting or getting married
Embarking on a new chapter, such as moving in together or tying the knot, brings positive shifts in cooking and eating. Respondents reported cooking their own meals more often than when living alone (20%) and preparing balanced meals more frequently (25%). Over a third (35%) also increased their fruit and vegetable intake during this phase.

Breakups
The end of a relationship can disrupt eating patterns significantly. Respondents turned to sweets more often (25%) and fatty or fried foods (25%). Additionally, 44% cooked for themselves less than three times a week post-breakup. Women tended to gain weight (44%), while men were more likely to lose it (20%).

The first child
Welcoming a baby reshapes daily routines, often pressuring new parents' diets. A quarter (25%) cited time shortages as a barrier to balanced eating. Meals were eaten at irregular times (43%), and one in three opted for quick-prep options. Time constraints led many to choose sweets (31%), carb-heavy foods (28%), and fried or fatty items (24%). Unwanted weight gain affected 45% of new parents.
