Boost your resistance with these 8 kiwi tips

Boost your resistance with these 8 kiwi tips

It's December:your body has to endure a little harder with the cold. Give your resistance a boost with the kiwi – tasty and packed with vitamin C, antioxidants, minerals and fiber.

Take advantage of these eight handy tips and tricks.

1. Green or yellow? Choose your favourite The green and yellow kiwi are similar in appearance, but very different. The Green kiwi is fresh and full of taste, with a little sourness. The green kiwi is rich in fiber that supports your bowel movements. The yellow kiwi is sweet, juicy and a true vitamin C bomb. At the same weight, a SunGold kiwi contains three times as much vitamin C as an orange.

2. You don't see the ripeness of a kiwi, you feel it
When is the kiwi at its best? You don't see it, but you feel it. Place the kiwi in your palm and if you can press it gently, it is at its best. This is especially true for the green kiwi. The yellow kiwi is (almost) always ready to eat in the store.

3. Peeling is not necessary It is not necessary to peel the kiwi:the whole kiwi, including the skin, is edible. In fact, the skin of the kiwi contains a lot of fiber. Do not forget to rinse or brush the green kiwi first to remove the hairs, brushing is not necessary with the yellow kiwi.

4. Three ways to eat your kiwi You can eat the kiwi in many ways. Cut it in half, put half in an egg cup and eat it just like a boiled egg. Or eat it out of hand, peel and all. Another way to eat the kiwi is to slice it with (or without) skin.

5. Choose the perfect time to eat your kiwi
Kiwis can be stored for one to two weeks after purchase. Do you want the kiwi to not ripen too quickly? Put it in the fridge and keep it separate from other fruits, so the kiwi will last another week. Do you want to speed up the ripening process? Then put the kiwi together with an apple or banana in a paper bag.

6. Zespri on-the-go solutions
A kiwi on-the-go has to be careful:you don't want a mess on the way. Zespri has come up with something for that:the kiwi spoon is perfect for eating the kiwi on the road or at work.

7. Kiwis as ideal kitchen inspiration
You can make delicious things with the kiwi. From breakfast to salad, snacks and dessert. A few ideas in a row:

  • Everyday favourite:the kiwi smoothie. Delicious with banana or yogurt.
  • Kiwi breakfast, tasty and simple, with yogurt, muesli and pieces of kiwi.
  • Creative:frozen kiwi ice cubes, the perfect garnish for your favorite Gin Tonic.
  • Did you know that a kiwi is perfect for making meat more tender? Kiwis contain a special enzyme that is not found in any other fruit:actinidin. Actinidin breaks down proteins. If you bring the substance into contact with meat, the meat will become more tender. Rub both sides of the raw meat with kiwi skin or kiwi slices and let it marinate for 20 minutes. The meat becomes wonderfully soft, ready to bake, roast or roast immediately.
