Every year around this time, my kitchen gets overrun with gnats. It's partly my own doing—I leave fruit, onions, and potatoes out on the counter.
Thankfully, my grandmother shared her reliable natural trap for getting rid of small flies.
Don't worry: this trap only takes 2 minutes to set up, and you'll soon wave goodbye to those pesky gnats.
Here's how simple it is:

- Glass jar
- A4 sheet of paper
- Tape
- 2 pieces of overripe apple
- 2 pieces of stale bread
1. Roll the sheet of paper into a funnel. Make the top as wide as possible and the bottom about the width of a finger.
2. Secure the funnel with tape once it's the right size.
3. Place the apple pieces in the jar and crush them slightly to release juice—the stronger the scent, the better.
4. Add the bread pieces on top.
5. Insert the paper funnel without letting it touch the bread.
6. Position the trap where gnats are most active, like near your fruit basket in the kitchen.
7. When the jar is full of gnats, take it outside. Only remove the funnel far from home with your door closed.
8. Repeat as needed.

And just like that, this homemade trap clears the gnats from your home. :-)
Simple, quick, and highly effective—no chemicals or insecticides required, just a smart natural solution for fruit flies.
Avoid overfilling the jar to prevent escapes.
Bread is the secret ingredient! The fruit scent draws gnats in, and the bread keeps them trapped inside—they can't resist it.
Once in, they can't find their way out. Clever and foolproof, right?
