An artificial intelligence finds the recipe of a dish from its photo

We all dream of making that magnificent marble cake we saw on Instagram or those unicorn cupcakes we pinned on Pinterest... but we don't have the recipe. We have the solution! Developed by MIT (in French, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology), the intelligent Pic2Recipe system (literally "from photo to recipe") is able to recognize more than a million recipes from a single photo, or at least suggest a comparable recipe. Pretty cool, right?

Science at the service of the kitchen

This artificial intelligence system could well simplify our lives. On the demonstration video (at the top of the article), we can see a photo of a basic cookie. The system analyzes the image and gives 8 ingredients out of 11. And it is particularly effective on desserts such as muffins or cookies. Why ? Simply because it is the most complete theme on the database. The most difficult thing for him is to recognize smoothies (even for us, at first sight, difficult to be precise when you see a green smoothie:kiwi? mint? apple?) or even sushi. The researchers who developed this A.I. (artificial intelligence) would eventually like to include the way recipes are prepared.

But where will science stop?
