5 tips to choose the best watermelon

During these hot days, a watermelon is a wonderful refreshment. But it must be nice and sweet. How do you choose the perfect watermelon?

With these tips you increase the chance that you have a nice juicy watermelon.

1. Note the yellow spot

A yellow spot will appear where the watermelon has been lying on the ground. Ripe specimens almost always have a large yellow spot, sometimes even almost orange.

2. Look at the lines on the watermelon

Lines run across a watermelon, these are called webs. The more webs on it, the sweeter it will be.

3. Look at shape

A round watermelon is generally a bit sweeter, while an elongated/oval one has a more watery taste.

4. Choose one that is heavy for its size

Do not take the largest or smallest, but choose an average size. Also choose one that seems heavy for its size.

5. Check the stem

Has the stem dried out? Then it is ripe. A green stem can mean that the watermelon was harvested too early, so a less good choice.
